Montana Repertory Theatre Brings Frankenstein + Farmer to SHS Stage

On Monday, October 14 Jackie Kleinsasser and Seth Campbell, both University of Montana students performed the play Frankenstein + Farmer in the Shelby High School auditorium for students grades 6-12. Both Jackie and Seth were casted in their roles by the Montana Repertory Theatre, and said they are half way through their Educational Fall Tour.
Frankenstein + Farmer, a one hour performance, was written by JM Christiansen.
The play likened the idea of a creator making Frankenstein to how social media can damage our relationships and create stress. Although the play was full of humor, as an isolated farm girl talks to her cow about science, it also had a serious message for students about mental health. “The message behind the play was mental health, stress, and how, it’s okay not to be okay,” said Jackie.
In the afternoon, the actors held a stage theater action workshop, where students learned about how to perform in an action scene. Shelby English Teacher and School Play Director, Kristi Calvery said “The workshop had around 25 students.”
Students learned how to make a fight scene look real through choreographed steps that escalated to a slap or punch.
“The workshop was a lot of fun, I wish they could do another one,” said senior Donnie Tronson.
Jackie and Seth said they have been performing this play for over two months all over Montana, and they like that they are able to bring theater to rural places for students.
