“Hey Princess, will you take this Beast to Prom” on a hot pink poster. This is just one example of this year's flashy promposals .Fortunately, the Cut Bank princes who received the promposal said, “of course I will!” Prom-posals have become a popular and thoughtful way to ask someone to prom.
Ryland Larson, a sophomore at Shelby Public Schools decided in January that he wanted to take his girlfriend to prom. He asked a friend to help him out with ideas for a prom poster. Of course the story isn’t complete until we understand prom-posal from the receiver's perspective. Larson's girlfriend Ashlyn Brown said, “I really do like the tradition of promposals. It's a super fun and cute way to ask someone to prom, whether you are dating or not.” Most girls who received promposals agree, and they said it is special when the posters or gifts are creatively designed for them specifically.
While some guys ask girls as soon as the date of prom is set, others wait until prom is only two weeks away. On March 2, Noah Preuss showed up to first period English with a poster and bucket of orange candy for Reese Lee. Preuss designed a poster that alludes to the song “Something in the Orange” by Zach Bryan. The poster said: “Reese! Something in the Orange tells me to ask you to prom.” There was a checkbox with yes or no on the orange candy container, and Lee immediately checked the yes. Preuss says that his sisters helped design the poster.
Lee said she was surprised and excited that Preuss asked her to prom. She, like other girls who were asked to prom by a promposal, said: ”I think promposals are cute. They are something my dad had to do as well. It puts the guys out there. It also makes guys have to be creative and think creatively.” Undeniably, both of the guys who asked a girl to prom called on the help of a friend or sister to get some creative ideas.
The junior class is hosting prom on March 18, in the Shelby High School Gym, with the grand march starting at 8 pm. The theme for this year's prom is a Golden Gala, and it will cost $25 for couples and $15 for singles. The junior prom committee has been planning prom since January and the junior class president, Delaney Clark said: ”it's going to be a fun night”.
A photographer will be taking pictures of couples between 6:30 and 7:30 pm before Grand March. Clark said they are still looking for a DJ, but they will find a good one and the dance is scheduled from 8:30 to 12:00. Although most students plan a formal dinner before prom, the juniors do plan to have snacks and drinks available.
Larson plans to take his date along with Berlin Larson and her date Ryan Simpson to the Frontier Club in Dunkirk. He said he is “excited to see his girlfriend dressed up and dancing,” Preuss said he and Lee might join the group at the Frontier Club now that the hard part of getting the “yes” checked is complete.
