National FFA week and fun FFA events
By: Donald Tronson
Last week, February 20-24, Shelby FFA celebrated national FFA week. They started off the week with an assembly, dress up days, and a breakfast for farmers. National FFA week is celebrated across the country in February every year, and it is an important way to spread awareness about the organization and how it provides leadership and service to the community.
FFA advisor, Thad White, said FFA has roughly 850,000 national members and 6,500 state members. The Shelby chapter has over 100 students who learn and compete in events. He also said FFA week has been a celebration since 1947.
Sophomore, Ayden Davis, is a current FFA Member and participated in the events including the dress up days to make the week fun for the entire student body. He suggests students join as it is, “really fun and there are a lot of activities and competitions.”
The most popular dress up days were hat day and country vs. country club. Parker Bushnell wore a pink cowboy hat. He said “It was the cowboy hat I had.”
On Tuesday February 28, a group of freshman girls in FFA attended an event in Great Falls. They participated in Ag Technology and Mechanical Systems, Star Greenhand, Agronomy, and Farm Business Management. The top placers in Star Greenhand were Lindy Kiefer and Jadis Scarborough who took second and third place. In Farm Business Management Addison Stevenson took second place and Morgan Porter took third place. The Shelby FFA chapter also took fifth place in agronomy and second place in Farm Business Management.
