FAQ'S ABOUT STUDENT SUPPORT FUND
If you're looking for financial help while studying at The Sheffield College, the Student Support Fund may be able to help you with travel, meals, or essential course costs.
You can apply online here:
sheffield.paymystudent.com/portal
You need to apply every academic year you're on a course.
We receive a large number of applications at the start of the academic year – over 3,000 between September and Decemeber.
Because of this, it can take 4–6 weeks to process your application after you get your acknowledgment email.
We’ll contact you by email if we need more evidence.
Please use a working email address you can access when you enrol.
While your application is being processed, you’ll need to pay for your own travel and meals.
If you’re eligible, travel support will be backdated to the start of the half-term in which we received your complete application.
We’ll contact you by email or letter, so make sure your contact info is up to date.

City Campus – Upper floor, next to the Library
Hillsborough Campus – Reception
Your attendance, behaviour, and completion of work all affect your funding.
If your attendance is low, your application may be put on hold until it improves.
We offer support based on your personal circumstances. This could include:
Travel costs
Free college meals (for 16–18s or EHCP students under 24 on certain benefits)
Help with essential kit, equipment, or trips your course requires
If you’ve been awarded funding, payments can take up to 10 working days to reach your bank account from the date on your award letter.
Still not received it?
You’ll need to send us a bank statement showing the money hasn’t gone in.
We will only backdate your funding to the start of the half-term we received your complete application.
We cannot backdate any earlier if:
Evidence is missing
Your form was incomplete
Your attendance is poor
