The children have worked incredibly hard throughout module three and module four and have made real strides in their development and progress to date.
Fond Farewells and Staff Updates
We sadly are saying goodbye to Miss Adewusi, our SEN teacher. Miss Adewusi has continually supported our SEN students and she will be sorely missed. We wish all the best in her new adventures.
Miss Maher has joined the Inclusion team as an SEN teacher in module 3. Miss Maher will be continuing in Module 5 and Module 6.
Miss Matthews has a new addition to her family- little baby Erik. Many congratulations to Miss Matthews and family.
As an appreciation to the work of Miss Adewusi, we will be having a spotlight on Speech and Language Awareness for the SEND newsletter.
Speech and Language
Speech and Language difficulties can present in many different ways and can be a hidden SEN condition. Please see the visual below listing the strategies to use in order to support Speech and Language Students both at home and in school. This may also benefit strategies for all learners.
Developmental Language Disorder
Developmental language disorder (DLD) is a communication disorder that interferes with learning, understanding, and using language. These language difficulties are not explained by other conditions, such as hearing loss or autism, or by extenuating circumstances, such as lack of exposure to language. DLD can affect a child’s speaking, listening, reading, and writing. DLD has also been called specific language impairment, language delay, or developmental dysphasia. It is one of the most common developmental disorders, affecting approximately 1 in 14 children in pre- school. DLD persists into adulthood.

SEN Coffee Mornings
Thank you to those parents who attended our college coffee mornings. It was great to meet with you all. Due to the success of these will be holding these again in the Autumn Term.
North Kent College Trip
In Module 4 our Year 11 EHCP students visited North Kent College in Dartford. It was lovely to see what courses North Kent had to offer. It was exciting to see the variety of courses plus also spotting past students that attended Sir Geoffrey Leigh Academy.
SEN Champions
Our SEN Champions are continuing to meet regularly and offer suggestions to our SEN students. Next term the team will be planning information for our new incoming Year 7 students in September 2025.
Successes
Hanna, Harry and Sullivan have achieved the league of excellence for continuing to work to the best of their abilities - well done to all.
Keira in Year 7 met Jamie Oliver at the Houses of Parliament to highlight the need for more dyslexia support in the country.
Interventions
To continually support our SEN pupils we offer the following interventions:
Reading
Phonics
Maths
Handwriting
ELSA (an intervention to support emotions)
Social Skills
Lego therapy
Zones of regulation
EBSA (emotional based school avoidance).
We also offer sensory circuits and clever fingers. This list is not exhaustive and as we are always adapting to support the changing needs of our students.
Revision Sessions
Over the Easter Break there are planned revision sessions to support Year 11 with their GCSEs. Please look out for information. If your child can attend this will be really beneficial for them to give them the extra support they will need just before the exam period starts.
Thank you
Finally, I would like to thank all our students and staff for all of their hard work and dedication throughout this module.
I wish you a lovely Easter Break
