In today’s rapidly evolving world of education, music remains a powerful tool for nurturing creativity and enhancing learning. For Year 7 students, one of the most exciting and enriching experiences can be the opportunity to create their own songs.
The process of composing a song requires not only musical knowledge but also an understanding of various elements of music, such as melody, harmony, rhythm, and dynamics. By using the keyboard as an instrument for expression, Year 7 pupils can engage with these elements in a hands-on and accessible way.
In module 5 and 6 pupils will be progressing on their keyboard skills by accessing the keyboard skills scheme of work.
In the dynamic world of video games, music is more than just background noise—it plays a critical role in shaping the player’s experience. From setting the mood to enhancing gameplay, music is a powerful tool in immersing players in virtual worlds. For our Year 8 students, studying video game music was an exciting way to explore the connection between sound and emotion, and what better place to start than with one of the most iconic tunes in gaming history: the Super Mario Bros. theme.
Pupils studied the sheet music and transferred their sight reading skills into practical skills by playing with both hands on the keyboard.
Film music is more than just a soundtrack—it is an essential part of the storytelling process. From heart-pounding action sequences to emotional moments that tug at the heartstrings, the music in a film can elevate the narrative and create unforgettable experiences for the audience. For Year 9 students, diving into the world of film music offered an exciting opportunity to explore the intersection of sound, emotion, and storytelling. Students created and analysed and their own version of music for a short clip from a film of their choice.
