Year 7 have now moved on with their learning on how to make brush marks using artists analysis and are applying their knowledge to paint a family of cups under their theme of Family.
Year 8 have been learning digital skills to make a poster. They have looked at how artsists work can communicate messages to the viewer so they can then communicate our theme of pollution in the oceans.
Students have been learning about Picasso cubist work, analysing the 'Weeping Woman'. The way Picasso has used colour and how he has presented this piece and understanding the sharp, jagged shapes and the discordant colour. Student have then created their own cubist eye.
Fine art students have been studying 'The Day of the Dead'. Students have created their own Milagro which are charms often used to decorate “las ofrendas” (the offerings) on Day of the Dead. They are a symbol of good luck or protection. The word “milagro” literally means MIRACLE.
Photography students have been learning about Anna Atkins, who some sources say she was the first person to illustrate a book with photographic images. Her nineteenth-century cyanotypes used light exposure and a simple chemical process to create impressively detailed blueprints of botanical specimens.
All our Year 11 and 13 students are studying hard, completing work for their exams. We will showcase this work in future newsletter additions
Year 12 & 13 Fine Art students had our Curriculum Advisor for Visual Arts, Adam Elias, came and delivered a workshop for them, using water based oil paints. We had a very successful session and the Year 13 students are able to now apply these skills into their exam work.
