Our Amazing, Ever-Changing Earth

This interim, our 5th graders will be exploring what makes our planet so incredible, from the materials that make up our world to the powerful forces that shape it. We’ll build on our understanding of matter and the Periodic Table as we investigate density and buoyancy, discover how heat moves from one place to another, and learn how these ideas help explain the layers of Earth. We’ll take a closer look at how Earth’s systems work together, explore how the continents move over time, and investigate what happens when our planet changes quickly through earthquakes, volcanoes, and other natural hazards. These lessons help students understand why our world looks the way it does, how it continues to change, and how scientists use evidence to explain and predict what happens around us. The Earth may seem solid and still beneath our feet, but there is so much happening both inside and all around it! We’ll spend this interim asking questions, making connections, and discovering just how much there is to learn about the amazing planet we call home.
