Beginning Band Description:

What to Expect:

1. Instrument Selection: In our welcoming and supportive environment, you'll have the opportunity to choose from a variety of instruments, including the flute, clarinet, trumpet, trombone, saxophone, french horn, euphonium, and more. Mr. Knapp will help you find the instrument that resonates with your personality and musical preferences.

2. Fundamental Techniques: You'll start by learning the essential techniques needed to play your chosen instrument. From understanding how to assemble and care for your instrument to mastering basic notes and rhythms, our instructors will guide you step by step.

3. Music Theory:  You'll explore topics like reading sheet music, understanding key signatures, and grasping the fundamentals of rhythm and melody. This knowledge will empower you to become a well-rounded musician.

4. Group Dynamics: Band class is all about teamwork. You'll have the chance to collaborate with fellow beginners, creating a rich, layered sound.

5. Repertoire: Throughout the class, you'll have the opportunity to learn and perform basic simple  melodies & level 1 band charts.

6. Performance Opportunities: We believe that the stage is where true musicianship shines. Throughout the year we will have a few opportunities to perform helping build confidence and stage presence.

Intermediate & Advanced Band Description:

Building upon the foundation of our Beginning  Band Class, Intermediate and Advanced band expands students musical knowledge and abilities.

Program Highlights:

1.    Instrument Mastery: Here students will dive deeper into advanced techniques, tone production, and musical expression.

2.    Music Theory: Elevate your understanding of music theory, exploring more complex concepts such as harmony, counterpoint, and simple composition.

3.    Challenging Repertoire: Delve into challenging and more diverse musical repertoire. Develop your skills by mastering more difficult passages and musical scores.

4.    Ensemble Dynamics: As an intermediate or advanced student, you'll have the opportunity to participate in and collaborate with fellow musicians in small ensembles and solos.  Our program provides opportunities for soloists to shine and build their confidence.

8th grade modern band extension:

8th grade students have an occasional opportunity to learn to play some modern band instruments such as the ukulele and guitar.  Here we learn some basics of playing chords and exploring popular songs.
