The Middle School Humanities program integrates a variety of disciplines, from the more traditional fields of history, geography, and English language arts with the often undervalued arenas of philosophy, anthropology, ethics, economics, music appreciation, and art history. In the fast-paced, rapidly changing landscape of our contemporary world, a foundation in areas of knowledge which consider not merely the how of a question, but also the why, remains more important than ever. Our goal is for students to develop an appreciation of the human condition through thoughtful, careful engagement with complex ideas and movements, past and present.

Students will have access to the school library time and an opportunity to check out books.
Students will engage in a variety of projects where they are expected to collaborate and work together with their classmates. Collaborative projects are graded by rubric, and students also receive individual grades based on their specific contributions.
We use Google classroom, docs, sheets, and slides along with a variety of educational apps. All students have either a school issued iPad and keyboard or a Chromebook. Students are expected to practice proper finger placement when keyboarding.
All students are required to write in cursive. There is time set aside at the beginning of the year to practice these skills. Students may be given individualized practice assignments as necessary.
