Our Typical Day
Each day starts with our bell work and mountain math. A timer is set and afterwards we review our answers.
Each day ends with an "exit ticket" of some kind. Usually a specific set of IXLs skills tailored for each student's individual needs.
For each module:
We start with notebook pages to introduce new concepts or refresh our memories of prior concepts
IXL skill practice that go along with the current content to practice these new skills
PreTest to see what they have already mastered
Book work to go more in depth with the concepts of that module
Project in which they have a choice of activities to extend the concepts
Quiz over concepts at the end of each module so that the students can show what they know
Resources
Our textbook is a consumable from which students complete work as a whole class, in small groups, and individually. There is also an online component that supplies reteach and enrichment opportunities. We use the textbook as a blueprint to guide our studies.
Unit 1: Numbers: Integers and Rational Numbers
Unit 2: Number Operations: Decimals, Fractions and Positive and Negative Numbers
Unit 3: Ratios and Rates
Unit 4: Expressions, Equations and Relationships
Unit 5: Relationships in Geometry
Unit 6: Measurement and Data
Unit 7: Personal Financial Literacy
We use IXL on an almost daily basis. IXL helps students practice skills with instant feedback. Students can participate in individual practice or small and large group "jam" sessions. IXL also has a skill plan that is aligned with the textbook that we use.
The diagnostic tool is also used at the beginning, middle and end of the year to measure a range of skills individualized to each student.
Prodigy is a website in which the teacher can assign questions based on what we're working on in class. Students enjoy the game like aspect of the quests and teachers track the students' progress.
Students complete daily practice with Mountain Math. It acts as a spiral review and allows me to see where there are gaps in knowledge. The skills are similar each week.
Khan Academy is a tool in which students can find educational videos, practice questions and assessments that help build on knowledge they are learning in class. Teachers can assign specific tasks or students can search on their own.
