Feedback routines are an essential part of instructional practice and allow students to show the progression of conceptual understanding.
Learners will:
In a classroom setting, routines are the intentionally selected processes that teachers and students engage in on a regular basis, over time.
Feedback is the continuous process through which information is provided to the learner to validate, dismiss, modify, and refine their understanding.
When a teacher intentionally selects, implements and refines feedback routines, students are provided opportunities to deepen their conceptual understanding and ability to transfer learning.
What is conceptual understanding? Conceptual understanding involves the identification and development of the interplay between knowledge, skills and concepts. This includes understanding when and how to apply knowledge and skills in a variety of contexts, and to transfer learning to new and less familiar settings. Conceptual understanding allows students to see patterns, organize learning, and make connections to other contexts including real world situations.
