The Arlington Heights Police Department has 109 police officers who are dedicated to serving the 75,000 residents of Arlington Heights.
Police patrol officers provide 24 hours of service everyday. Their shifts are 8 1/2 hours.
Police officers are responsible for protecting and serving the community. They enforce local and state laws.
The Department has three canine officers, K-9 Officer Reno, K-9 Officer Yara, K-9 Officer Vargo
A new police station was opened in 2018, it is located right where the old one once stood.
It is part of the John G. Woods Municipal Campus between Village Hall and Fire Station #1.
The station was supposed to open in August 2018, but it actually opened a little later due to a car crash to the front of the building.
The cost of the new Police Station is estimated at $27,000,000 dollars.
1887: The first police officer was Constable James McLaughlin.
1921: The first police motorcycle was purchased.
1925: Arlington Heights had only one officer, Chief Carl Skoog.
1927: A second officer was hired, Officer William Heinemann, who patrolled at night.
1929: The first police car was purchased.
1937: 4 police officers
1938: A dance was held to raise money to buy a second police car.
1978: Police station was built and there were 80 officers and 12 staff.
2018: New police station was opened with a staff of 139 people.
