Arlington Heights has 4 fire stations which are staffed 24 hours a day/365 days a year.
Arlington Heights Fire Department responds to around 10,000 calls for emergency service each year.
The fire stations house 6 fire engines, 2 ladder towers, 6 ambulances and 4 specialty/rescue squads.
ALL Firefighters are certified as EMTs, or Emergency Medical Technicians and more than half are certified Paramedics.
There are more than 100 firefighters!
The Fire Department provides fire suppression, emergency medical, specialty rescue, and educational services for the residents and businesses of Arlington Heights.
The Fire Department has received the highest public protection rating, Class 1. This is a very special rating, less than 1% of ALL fire departments nationwide achieve this ranking!
The Fire Department began in 1894. It started with ALL VOLUNTEERS! There were 40 members.
In the first 20 years of the volunteer system, the Fire Department responded to only 40 alarms.
The Village of Arlington Heights hired its first 4 full-time firefighters on April 28, 1957.
