Asa Dunton was a stonecutter who lived in New York with his wife and family. They had 2 sons and 4 daughters. They moved to the area in 1836 because the land was good for farming.
Asa bought 3 land claims, one for himself and one for each his sons. Each land claim was for 160 acres of land.
In 1836, Asa Dunton built one of the first log cabins in the area. His family lived in this log cabin for about 5 years. A replica is on the Arlington Heights Historical Society grounds.
In 1847, Asa Dunton built a clapboard house on his land claim. The house at 612 N. Arlington Heights Road still stands today. It is the oldest home in Arlington Heights.
