Phonemic awareness is a critical component of early literacy development, particularly for students in grades K and 1. It involves the ability to hear, identify, and manipulate the individual sounds in words, laying the groundwork for effective reading and writing skills. Our primary teachers incorporate daily activities that focus on phonemic awareness to help students develop essential skills such as auditory discrimination, sound manipulation, and blending.
Using structured phonemic awareness tools in teaching supports students’ foundational skill development in an interactive learning environment helps students to master essential literacy skills during their formative years.
A substantial part of phonemic awareness involves teacher-directed learning, where students engage in activities designed to help them identify and manipulate sounds in words.
