Independent Writing

Independent Writing:

The focus of Writer’s Workshop is on the writer and the process, rather than moving each piece to a finished, published work. Students learn to write by writing for a sustained amount of time. Emphasis is placed on the development of stamina and the acquisition of skills and strategies. During this time, students are productively engaged in planning, drafting, revising, editing, and conferring with other writers about their work. Teachers monitor progress and confer with individual students and/or small groups.
