Locura de Marzo 2024 has started! Don't forget to vote for your favorite Spanish language songs in your Spanish class!
Next week, JROTC Cadets for both Alpha and Bravo platoons will be having their first advancement. From Seaman Recruit to Seaman Apprentice. A start of many qualification advancements. Of the 32 cadets, 28 have earned ribbons for unit service, academic team, color guard, achievement, fitness, participation and personal appearance. Our leadership team is Commanding Officer LCDR Lole Ulutu (Senior), Executive Officer LT Summer Ramsey (Senior), and our Command Senior Enlisted, Angelo Lewis (sophomore). Great job by all!
April 12, from 0900 to 1500, the MBHS JROTC will conduct a field trip to the Coast Guard Sector San Diego base, for a tour of the helicopters as well as a underway ride on San Diego Bay with the Station rescue boats.
Also, Alpha Platoon, led by Seaman Apprentice Faith Harford-Pinuelas (Freshman) led 15 personnel giving 15 hrs of Alpha Platoon time for the clean-up of the MBHS Vietnam Memorial located at the entry of the school, weeding, sweeping, cleaning the fountain, picking up trash. I didn’t know this till now, but this was a memorial honoring the lives of 6 MBHS graduates. Established in 1970, it was updated in 2008 to add a 6th name that was inadvertently left off. These were graduates from Class of ’58 to ‘68. It included Dave Rose, Walt Stevens, Richard Friend, William Fix, James Gulie and Charles Goldmeyer. As the plaque states, “To live in hearts we leave behind, is not to die.” (Thomas Campbell).
