College and Career Access Pathways (CCAP) classes are part of a dual enrollment program jointly offered by the San Diego Community College District (SDCCD) and the San Diego Unified School District (SDUSD). This initiative allows high school students to take college-level courses on their high school campuses during the regular school day, earning both high school and college credit simultaneously.
How CCAP Works
Location & Timing: Courses are taught at participating high schools by SDCCD faculty during the standard school day.
Cost: Enrollment fees and textbooks are free for students.
Credit: Students earn dual credit—applicable toward high school graduation and college degrees or certificates.
Eligibility: While students as early as 9th grade may participate, most are juniors or seniors.
Course Options: Offerings include subjects like English, math, political science, psychology, business, and career technical education (CTE) fields such as biotechnology and fire technology.
Benefits of CCAP
College Readiness: Provides early exposure to college-level coursework, helping students build confidence and academic skills.
Cost Savings: Reduces the time and expense of completing a college degree.
Improved Outcomes: CCAP participants have demonstrated higher first-year college success rates, earn more units, and are more likely to persist into their second year compared to non-participants.
