At San Diego Unified, our College, Career, and Technical Education (CCTE) programs empower all students with real-world skills, immersive hands-on learning, and industry-aligned opportunities that help them thrive in college, career, and beyond. Through a wide range of career pathways such as health science, engineering, digital media, business, and the arts, students gain valuable experience that connects classroom learning to the real world. CCTE courses support students in exploring their interests, building confidence, and preparing for life after high school.
San Diego Unified currently offers 188 CTE courses across 29 career pathways in 13 industry sectors. In addition, students have access to 80 college courses through our College and Career Access Pathways (CCAP) and Advanced College Placement (ACP) programs, expanding opportunities to earn college credit while still in high school.
We believe every student deserves access to meaningful learning opportunities that open doors to postsecondary education, high-wage careers, and lifelong success. Our department proudly serves the diverse students and families of San Diego Unified, and we are committed to preparing the next generation of leaders, creators, and problem-solvers.

This week, Taft Middle School hosted its first-ever Rocket Invitational, welcoming 320 elementary students from six feeder schools for an unforgettable hands-on STEAM experience.

Students in the Software and Systems Development pathway at La Jolla High School recently brought creativity, technology, and school spirit together through a unique 3D printing project tied to the wrestling team’s senior night. As a mid-season celebration, students designed and produced eight custom 3D-printed bobbleheads honoring individual wrestlers, creating a memorable keepsake for athletes and their families.

Student: Stella K.
For her senior capstone project at the San Diego School of Creative and Performing Arts, Stella K. set out to transform her school’s Academic League home matches into an experience as creative and dynamic as the campus itself.
Making Competition Feel Like a Game Show
Stella’s project, Light Triggering Buzzers, reimagines the traditional buzzer system used during Academic League competitions. Her goal was to make matches feel more like a live game show by adding visual excitement, including custom lighting cues that trigger the moment a buzzer is pressed.
To begin, Stella explored how professional game shows and British panel shows use lighting, timing, and sound to heighten energy and engagement. From there, she moved into the technical challenge of making that experience possible with the equipment available at her school.
