From 4 to 10 June 2024, an Erasmus+ group mobility took place in Kempen, Germany. 11 students from our school took part in the trip, hosted by the Luise von Duesberg Gymnasium in Kempen.
The aim of the study trip was to develop our students' oral German language skills, to encourage them to express their opinions in German and to encourage discussion. Both of these skills are prerequisites for the German language diploma (Deutsches Sprachdiplom II), which students will have to pass at the end of 2025. The cross-cutting themes of the study trip were the development of democracy and the European Union. Our hosts had prepared a content-rich programme, in which Estonian and German students worked together on various tasks.
On the very first day, the students were divided into groups of three to four. Each group was given a topic on which information was collected and uploaded to the TaskCards environment on the last day.
The programme included a visit to the "Haus der Geschichte", the German History Museum in Bonn, where they were introduced to Germany's journey towards the European Union. The group also visited the wonderful old town of Aachen. From there, the tour continued to the border crossing point between Germany, the Netherlands and Belgium. The "Dreiländereck" is a striking example of a borderless European Union. In Dusseldorf, our students had the opportunity to visit the parliament of the federal state of North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW) and learn about the rules of procedure and the structure of the "Landtag". The students spent the weekend with their host family, learning about German life and practising German.
On the Monday before the return flight, they gathered at the Luise von Duesburg Gymnasium, took stock of what they had seen and heard, exchanged impressions and each group worked on its own digital product. Group activities are grouped here in Padlet link.
The project will continue in September 2024 in Estonia. TSG students will then have the opportunity to introduce the development of democracy and the European Union to the students of Kempen.
The mobility was organised by teachers Reet Jõgeva and Aina Saares.
