Video games about mental health in Tallinna Saksa Gümnasium from 5. - 9. February
5.-9. In February, an Erasmus+ project took place in cooperation with the students of the German School in Lisbon, which resulted in the completion of prototypes of video games.
The workshop was supervised by Taavi Varm, a PhD student at the Estonian Academy of Arts, who is investigating the potential of video games in promoting mental health and well-being among young adults as part of his doctoral thesis.
Students focused on the areas of game concept, narrative, character design, visual world and sound design using digital tools on a tablet - ProCreate, Unity and Audacity. Design principles based on Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi's "Flow" theory were used to create the games.
A total of 6 different game prototypes were completed, which were presented to the audience gathered on the last day, where the background of their ideas and design principles were explained. In between the very intensive project, visits to Tallinn Fotografiska and various museums in Helsinki - Kiasma, Amos Rex, Ateneum and the Finnish Museum of Architecture - were also included for inspiration.
We thank Taavi Varm and the Estonian Academy of Arts.
