From 3 to 6 June 2024, 16 students from the 11th grade of the Tallinn German Gymnasium who have completed or are in the process of completing their German language diploma (Deutsches Sprachdiplom I and II) participated in an Erasmus+ mobility to Berlin.
The host school was the Katholische Schule Liebfrauen in Berlin. The objectives of the mobility were to improve the students' German language skills and to motivate them to continue their language learning, as well as to get to know German culture. They were given an overview of the EU 2024 elections and the work of the German Parliament, and new contacts were made.
As part of the political side of the programme, visits were made to the Bundestag, the Reichstag and the Estonian Embassy in Berlin. In each of the institutions visited, the students were introduced to the work of the institutions, their history and their importance for young people, as well as to the possible future roles of young people themselves.
In order to enable the students to make new contacts and to practice communication in German, the Estonian students introduced Estonia, our education system and digital solutions, as well as the local culture, to the German students, with whom they held discussions and prepared presentations inspired by these presentations and also by the EU 2024 elections.
To learn more about German culture and history, they took part in a tour of historical monuments in Berlin, visited the Stasi Museum Berlin and the Deutsches Technikmuseum Berlin.
The field trips were organised by teachers Kaja Reissaar and Liisa Meriste, together with Katholische Schule Liebfrauen teachers Ulrike Stamp and Gina Machowec.
We thank the Estonian Embassy in Berlin and Ambassador Kalvi Noormäe.
