Unpaid Medical Bills

Riverside USD offers 4 self-insured health plans.  The RUSD PPO plan is an extensive plan that offers coverage in-network and out-of network, whereas the RUSD EPO plan is an In-Network ONLY  health plan.  These self-insured plans require members to pay annual calendar year deductibles, co-pays, co-insurance and out of pocket expenses (please refer to the Employee Benefit Guide book for more information).  If you have received a bill or collection notice that exceeds your patient responsibility in calendar year deductibles, co-pays, or co-insurance, please contact Lucent Health directly so they can research your file and provide detailed information regarding your claims.   In some cases, providers may bill our insurance incorrectly, may not properly code a bill for service or a provider may be considered "Non Par Provider" or "out-of-network" and the patient would be responsible for paying the cost of the service.

Anytime you use your medical insurance and a claim is filed, Lucent Health will mail you an Explanation of Benefits (EOB) that details the date of service, the amount the insurance paid, your co-pay and your patient responsibility in deductibles.  The EOB will also clarify if a service was denied and will provide the reason.  Please do not ignore this communication when it is received.  Reconcile it to any bill you have received from a Doctors office, lab, or facility and always contact Lucent Health if you feel the claim should be paid by our insurance.

It is extremely important that you do not ignore bills received from a Doctors office, lab or facility.  Failure to respond or rectify any outstanding balance will result in the provider sending the bill to a collections agency.

Our Department is available to assist, however, please keep in mind that we are not medical billing specialists and we will refer you back to your provider or to Lucent Health to clarify any billing issues.
