Attention!! : For application documents, it is now mandatory to submit Japanese translations for foreign-language materials, including those in English. Since the Immigration Bureau will review applications based on the Japanese translation, please be aware that any mistranslations may affect the outcome of the review.
（１）Changing from other status of residence to "Student" status of residence
If you wish to change your status of residence from working visa such as "Engineer/Specialist in Humanities/International Services", "Dependent Visa", or "Investor /Business Manager visa" to "Student", please contact the International Office first and follow the procedures below.
Since your activities under the status of residence before the change will be examined, be sure to prepare documents below.
１．Contact and consult with the International Office
２．Create a new account to the IRIS system
Create a new account to the residency management system - IRIS(Inbound Rikkyo International Students) (https://iris.rikkyo.ac.jp/sp/entry) and enter the applicant's required information.
３．Prepare the necessary documents
If you are changing your status of residence from a working visa to "Student" status of residence , you will be asked to provide the following proof documents.
Certificate of Retirement (of all places of your past employments in Japan)
Certificate of income and withholding tax, Taxation (or tax exemption) certificates and tax payment certificates for resident tax(for last year or the last 2 years)
Documents concerning defraying expanses (certificate of balance of yours or your sponsor, etc.)
４．Have the contents you entered in IRIS checked by the International Office and receive Application for Change of Status of Residence
①The International Office will check the contents and documents in IRIS and contact you via e-mail and IRIS if there are any deficiencies.
②After the deficiencies are resolved, the International Office will send you an Application for Change of Status of Residence.
５．Submit the application to the Immigration Bureau
After attaching an ID photo, the applicant must submit the application to the Immigration Bureau for the change procedure. Those who plan to work part-time should also submit an APPLICATION FOR PERMISSION TO ENGAGE IN ACTIVITY OTHER THAN THAT PERMITTED UNDER THE STATUS OF RESIDENCE PREVIOUSLY GRANTED.
6．Report the screening results and register a new residence card
Report the results of the screening to the International Office and register your new resident card from the top page of IRIS "Resident Card" button.
（２）Changing from "Student" status of residence to other status of residence
If you wish to change your status of residence from "College Student" to other status such as working visa or "Dependent" while still in school, the company you belong to or the applicant himself/herself must prepare an change application and submit it to the Immigration Bureau. Be sure to contact the International Office in advance and contact the International Office again after obtaining a new resident card. You must register your new residence card to IRIS.
