Health & Medical Insurance

• Those who have an address in Japan for more than 3 months must enroll in National Health Insurance.  

※Please refer here for how to enroll in it.

• By joining the National Health Insurance, 70% of general medical costs will be covered, and the remaining 30% must be paid individually. 

Monthly Insurance Fee 

After students join the National Health Insurance, they need to pay a monthly insurance premium. International students may receive some discount on their monthly premiums if they declare that their income is less than a certain amount. Premium levels differ depending on the city office of their residence. 

How to Use National Health Insurance 

Students must show their National Health Insurance Eligility when they receive medical treatment at any dental clinic, hospital or other medical facility. Please note that some private hospitals catering primarily to expatriate residents may not accept the National Insurance and demand full payment. The National Health Insurance does not cover childbirth, voluntary medical examinations (checkups), or elective cosmetic surgery.

• 国民健康保険に加入すると、病気やケガをした時の自己負担が、保険適用医療費の30％に なります。

 保険料

「国民健康保険」に加入後は月々の保険料を支払います。学生で所得がないことを申告する と、保険料は減額されます（金額は居住する地域により異なります）。

 診療時の手続き

医療機関で診療を受ける際に、「国民健康保険証」を提示してください。ただし医療機関によ っては（外国人専門の病院等）国民健康保険を取り扱っていないところもあります。その場 合は、医療費を全額自己負担する必要があります。また、出産や健康診断、美容整形などに は適用できません。 

 International students may enroll the Rikkyo Student Mutual-Aid Health Insurance in addition to the National Health Insurance. 

Students can receive treatment for free at the Rikkyo Medical Clinic and Niiza-Shiki Central Hospital, once they join the Rikkyo Student Mutual-Aid Health Insurance in addition to the National Insurance. Students must show their Student ID card, the National Health Insurance card as well as the Union Membership card at the contracted clinic or hospital. 

Treatment received at other medical centers where the total medical cost incurred is over 2,500 yen per month at the same clinic/hospital (including tests, treatment and medication), may be reimbursed by the Union if you submit the required documents. The limit of reimbursement is 40,000 yen per month and 320,000 yen per year. 

The Union Plan does not cover dental care, however, dental surgery will be covered by the Union Plan. If you receive treatment for dental surgery at the dentist, you need to submit the “Certificate of dental surgery treatment” (prescribed form) for the reimbursement procedures. 

立教大学に在学する特別外国人学生で、希望する人は学生健康保険互助組合（学生健保）への加入することができます。

学生健保に加入すると、学生健保が契約する医療機関（立教学院診療所、新座志木中央総合病院）で診療を受ける場合国民健康保険証と学生証、および学生健保の組合員証を提示すれば、保険診療内で自己負担はありません。

契約医療機関以外の医療機関や保険や薬局で診療・調剤を受けて、保険診療内の自己負担分が月単位（１つの病院、保険薬局）で2,500円以上の場合、申請すると学生健保から後日給付されます。ただし、給付限度額は自動給付と申請給付をあわせて1か月40,000円、年間320,000円です。

なお、歯科は対象外ですが、口腔外科は対象となります。歯科で口腔外科治療を受け、申請する場合は「口腔外科治療証明書」（組合書式）が必要です。

Payment of Insurance Fee 

Student who wish to join Rikkyo Student Mutual-Aid Health Insurance Union must pay the annual insurance fee of 3,500 yen (1,750 yen 

for one semester students) in cash during the orientation. The membership card will be issued for those who paid the insurance fee.

Please note that students are responsible for covering all the medical costs that are not covered by the National Health Insurance in case 

they choose not to join the Mutual-Aid Health Insurance Union.

Reimbursement Period and Procedures 

Students must submit the following documents to the Student Affairs Office, Student Affairs Division at Ikebukuro Campus or Niiza Campus within 30 days of the month after the visit to hospital or pharmacy(in case of hospitalization, documents must be submitted within 30 days of the month after being discharged from the hospital). Note that students’ applications for reimbursement of medical expenses cannot be accepted unless the applications have a Japanese bank account registered in their own name.

加入手続き・保険料 

加入を希望する人は、オリエンテーション期間中に申し込み、組合費3,500円（在籍期間 が1学期以下の場合は1,750円）を支払い加入します。

上記保険料を支払った人には学生健 康保険互助組合員証が交付されます。 

なお、学生健保に加入しない場合、自己負担分の医療費は全額個人負担となります。大学側での医療費の立て替えは一切行いません。

Rikkyo University provides the Inbound Medical Assistance Service (IMAS) through a specialist organization (Emergency Assistance Japan Co., Ltd.) for special international students (Exchange program).

The above students are able to take the service for free. (Some services need extra fee.)　The details will be announced to the students after enrollment.

All Rikkyo Students are required to join the Accident Insurance for Student Education and Research Insurance. Costs are covered by the University. By joining the above insurance program, students can receive insurance coverage for any accidents and injuries incurred during educational and research activities either on or off campus (including accidents and injuries during the commute to campus). When accidents occur, students need to apply for the reimbursement at the Student Affairs Office, Student Affairs Division at Ikebukuro campus or Niiza Campus within 30 days after the accident occurs.

 Injuries covered 

Physical injuries incurred as a result of sudden and unexpected accidents during educational or research activities. 

Injuries not covered 

Physical injuries incurred as a result of voluntary actions such as fights or dangerous sports and some specific types of injuries such as traumatic cervical syndrome (“whiplash” neck injuries). 

Insurance benefits 

Death benefits, disability benefits, medical benefits (when medical treatment is received) and additional benefits for hospitalization. 

本学の学生(学部学生、大学院学生、特別外国人学生)は、全員「学生教育研究災害傷害保 険」に加入しています。費用は大学で負担しています。キャンパスの内外を問わず、大学の 教育研究活動中や通学中に事故が発生した場合、一定の条件のもとで保険金を受け取ること ができます。事故日を含めて30日以内に所属キャンパスの学生部学生課で手続きを行って ください。 

保険金が支払われる場合

教育研究活動中の急激かつ偶然な外来の事故により、身体に傷害を被った時 

保険金が支払われない場合

 故意、闘争などにより生じた傷害、頸部症候群(むちうち症)、危険をともなう運動などに よって生じた事故による傷害など
