DESCRIPTION OF THE COURSE
Sociology is the study of human social relationships and institutions. Sociology’s subject matter is diverse, ranging from crime to religion, from the family to the state, from the divisions of race and social class to the shared beliefs of a common culture, and from social stability to radical change in whole societies.
Cambridge IGCSE Sociology is accepted by schools, universities, and employers as proof of knowledge and understanding. Successful Cambridge IGCSE Sociology candidates gain lifelong skills.

Cambridge IGCSE SOCIOLOGY enables learners to:
Expand awareness and analysis of the human social relationships, cultures, and institutions that profoundly shape both our lives and human history.
Have a better understanding of how we become who we are.
Develop a distinctive and enlightening way of seeing and understanding the social world in which we live and which shapes our lives.
Develop the ability to analyse human behaviour within their own society, between different cultures, and across different periods of time.
Acquire an appreciation of the effects that choice of methodology can have on social science investigations.
Acquire the ability to use sociological evidence and ideas to challenge their own beliefs and the beliefs of other people about issues such as equality, education, the family, and crime.
Learn to think, evaluate, and communicate clearly, creatively, and effectively.
The course is split into two components. All candidates take Paper 1 and Paper 2.
Paper 1 is 54% of the total marks and takes 2 hours. Candidates answer one compulsory data response question and one optional structured question from a choice of two. This paper tests content from Units 1, 2, and 3.
Paper 2 is 46% of the total marks and takes 1 hour:45 minute. Candidates answer two optional structured questions from a choice of four. This paper tests content from Units 4, 5, 6, and 7.
