IGCSE Options
Mr. Oluseye Akin- Vice Principal Academic
In Year 10, students commence Key Stage 4, the final stage of British-style secondary school education.
During Years 10 and 11, students will focus on a two-year programme of study in a variety of subjects, leading to an International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) qualification. This study ends with external examinations conducted in the third term of Year 11. All students at The Regent Secondary School will follow this course of study in Years 10 and 11 and sit IGCSE examinations. The syllabus material and examinations are provided by the University of Cambridge Assessment International Examinations (CAIE) Board (www.cie.org.uk).
Through Years 10 and Year 11, students will study some compulsory subjects alongside some subjects they have opted for.
This site is designed to help students and parents:
understand what IGCSE is about.
Inform you about how/what subjects impact career choices
make the necessary subject choices for the two-year course.
The purpose of this site is to support pupils and parents with the decisions they will need to make concerning career goals and the IGCSE qualifications required.
Pupils are also encouraged to seek advice from the teachers who will be delivering the IGCSE courses, and also their present teachers.
Pupils should consider the following issues when deciding which subjects to opt for:
What are my strengths and weaknesses?
What are the subjects about which I am enthusiastic?
What are my predicted grades in my subjects of interest?
Note that we use CAT4-generated data for this.
What advice have my teachers given me?
What qualifications or subjects do I need for further academic study and career choices?
The school would try to accommodate every combination of subjects chosen by pupils. However, there may be timetabling constraints that restrict some choices for a minimal number of students. Because of this possibility, we ask pupils to provide reserve/backup subject choices. We promise to always explore the best possible solution with you.
Cambridge International Education charges a registration fee for their examinations, the cost of which will be borne by parents.
A CIE IGCSE is a world-class qualification, and students must approach their studies diligently.
Please be aware that it is an expectation that students must have a minimum 95% attendance record to be registered as a candidate for the examination. If a student does not meet this requirement, The Regent Secondary School reserves the right to have the student register as a Private Candidate.
