DESCRIPTION OF THE COURSE
IGCSE History course offers the opportunity to study world history from the nineteenth century to the beginning of the twenty-first century. It encourages learners to raise questions and to develop and deploy historical skills, knowledge and understanding in order to provide historical explanations. Learners will explore history from a diversity of perspectives, including social, economical, cultural and political. The course will promote an understanding of the nature of cause and consequence, continuity and change, similarity and difference, based on an appreciation of nature and the use of historical evidence

KEY KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
Students are given the opportunity to:
Gain a greater understanding of international issues and inter-relationships, explore historical concepts such as cause and consequence, change and continuity, and similarity and difference
Develop an interest in and enthusiasm for learning about and understanding the past. Learn how to present clear, logical arguments. Develop historical skills, including investigation, analysis, evaluation and communication skills.
Ensure that learners’ knowledge is rooted in an understanding of the nature and use of historical evidence and develop an understanding of key historical concepts: cause and consequence, change and continuity, and similarity and difference.
The course is split into three components. All candidates take Paper 1 and Paper 2, and choose either Component 3 or Paper 4.
Paper 1 is 50% of the total marks, takes 2 hours. Students answer two questions from Section A (Core Content) and one question from Section B (Depth Studies)
Paper 2 is 33% of the total marks, takes 2 hours. Students answer six questions on one prescribed topic taken from the Core Content.
Paper 4 is 27% of the total marks, takes 1 hour. Students answer one question on a Depth Study.
The IGCSE History course provides you with a set of transferable skills that are applicable to a wide range of careers such as law, international relations/ diplomacy, publishing, journalism and the media, museums, librarianship and archive work, teaching, advertising, work in the development sector, global charity work etc.
Historians work in research, international organisation’s, foreign affairs department, Civil services, historical research organization’s and a very wide range of other careers too.
