The Five Senses

Elinor Wonder Why: Nature Sights and Sounds

URL: https://pbskids.org/elinor/games/elinor-nature-sights-and-sounds

Synopsis: Between four different settings, many different plants and animals, and a variety of weather conditions, your students can experiment with the various sights and sounds associated with these various factors.

ABCYa: The Five Senses

URL: https://www.abcya.com/games/five_senses

Synopsis: This interactive slideshow goes over the five senses, and then has a quiz component that is both read aloud, and also written, but places emphasis on students associating the five senses with five icons, not on their ability to read any of these words.

The Properties of Objects

Color Codes (Colours)

URL: https://www.mentalup.co/blog/color-shape-learning-games

Synopsis: This game is one that seems more conducive to students that can read, but if these words are read aloud to a class, kindergarten students can certainly take part. In this game there are three colours with their names written on the inside. One of the three will not properly be matched. Students need to identify which one does not match.

ABCYa: True Colors (Colours)

URL: https://www.abcya.com/games/true-colors-color-theory

Synopsis: This interactive slideshow goes over the primary and secondary colours, and then demonstrates how they can create the tertiary colours (without using too high a level of vocabulary). At the end there is a quiz that you and your students can take part in where he tests your ability to recall what various combinations of colours will create.

The Scale of the Universe 2 (Size)

URL: https://htwins.net/scale2/

Synopsis: This is a site that really lets students begin to see some comparisons in the sizes of various objects. Zoom in so the whole screen is the size of a penny and ask how the size of a human compares; zoom out to the Eiffel Tower and then ask how the same human compares in size. Though this simulator does have a scale that might be a bit excessive for grade one students, just seeing ideas such as how small our sun is in comparisons to other stars, and how big a hair is in comparison to a bacterial cell will hopefully pique their curiosity about scale.

TinkerCAD (Size and Shape)

URL: https://www.tinkercad.com/

Synopsis: Though this is a site that requires that you login using your Google login, once you have an account, the possiblities to create examples are limitless. Want to have a picture of a golf ball that appears larger than an elephant? Can be done in less than a minute. Want simply three elephants (or golf balls where you change the size of each one to identify the largest (or smallest) one? Would take less than a minute. The catalogue of 3D shapes already created for you to put to use is incredible, and you can simplify shapes by changing into "Minecraft" and "Lego" modes.
