The Ways That Objects Move

Code.org - Course A (Linear Movement)

URL: https://studio.code.org/s/coursea-2023?viewAs=Instructor

Synopsis: A combination of teacher-led digital examples and non-digital activities for students, this collection of twelve lessons is specifically geared towards both movement in simple, linear directions, and also towards the understanding of very basic commands that are used in programming such as repeats.

Gravity and Orbits (Curved and Circular Movement)

URL: https://phet.colorado.edu/en/simulations/gravity-and-orbits

Synopsis: Though understanding of what is taking place in this simulation is for students in Physics 20 and 30, this simulation does give some really good examples of circular and curved motion. To have perfectly circular motion, use the default settings for the sun/earth simulation; to show some curved motion, pause the simulation, and change the direction of the velocity vector (green arrow). The resultant scenario should create one with curves; hopefully one that lasts for a little bit to show your students before resulting in a planet/star collision!

Online Graphing Spirograph (Curved and Circular Movement)

URL: https://sciencedemos.org.uk/spirograph.php

Synopsis: What is really great with this tool is that you can have your students tell you what factors to change (position of the pen, the ratio and size of the spiraling wheel, and how many pens to have) and then they can see the circular motion that creates incredible curves.

Zig Zag! (Zig-Zag Movement)

URL: https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/488767725/

Synopsis: A very simple game in which your character creates a zig-zag path as a result of only moving up or down at a 45° angle to the horizontal results in a path that is clearly horizontal. The great part of including a game like this is that you can later show your students the programming behind such a game by clicking the "See Inside" button.

The Movement of Humans and Animals

Animal Movement

URL: https://www.tinytap.com/activities/g34t2/play/animal-movement

Synopsis: This game gives you a key word with a few examples of animals that move that way, and then you need to identify another example (or examples) of animals that move in a similar manner.
