Sadly, this is an estimate made by the United Nations Development Program, since annually more than 8 million tons of plastic waste end up in our oceans. This has already gotten out of control, currently they have found plastics in remote places like the Arctic and even at 10 000 meters of depth.
Where does all this waste that we find on the beaches come from?
Basically the bad handling that we give it and the excessive use.
There is waste that travels thousands of kilometers to reach our beaches, but it is not only that; There are people who do not take their waste and leave it abandoned in the places they visit, where many times there are no separation cans or places properly designated for the disposal of waste..
Why does beach pollution affect me?
The list is huge but we are going to focus on 3 main effects:
Public health, at certain points these areas become sources of contamination where microorganisms proliferate, which can cause severe infections.
Environment alters our environment, animals start feeding on said waste and many times they end up sick. The most worrying thing is that we end up ingesting animals that in turn ate some type of residue that now remains inside them or caused them some type of disease or even death.
Economy, since the beaches become dumps they become less attractive for tourists, which generates a reduction in visits and with it the impact of economic income on businesses that make a living from tourism, even affecting localities.
Afortunadamente cada vez más países se suman a la erradicación de desechables de un sólo uso, al tema de concientización y por ende a la disminución de su generación y al reciclaje.
Seamos honestos todas nuestras acciones repercuten en el medio ambiente, entonces
What can I do to contribute?
Deposit waste in places designated for this purpose.
If you find a residue on the beach, pick it up.
Be a responsible consumer.
Reduce your waste generation.
Participate in the International Beach Cleanup, which is organized in your hotel or community.
The purpose of commemorating the "International Beach Cleaning Day" is to raise awareness about the importance of caring for our environment and to know the consequences that our activities generate.
Come to the Quality / Training area of your hotel and ask about the next activities that we will carry out to contribute to this important task!
