"One day for sure, it sure is a great day!"
The World Day for Safety and Health at Work is celebrated annually on April 28 and promotes the prevention of work accidents and occupational diseases throughout the world.
History
In 2003, the International Labor Organization (ILO) began to observe the World Day by emphasizing the prevention of accidents and diseases in the workplace, relying on the traditional characteristics that strengthen its action: tripartism and social dialogue.
April 28 is also the day on which the world trade union movement celebrates its International Day of Commemoration of Deceased and Injured Workers, in order to honor the memory of the victims of accidents at work and occupational diseases, and they organize for this reason mobilizations and campaigns around the world
Work risks
New and emerging occupational hazards can be caused by technical innovation or by social or organizational change, for example:
New technologies and production processes, for example, nanotechnology or biotechnology.
New working conditions, e.g. increased workloads, work intensification due to downsizing, poor conditions associated with labor migration, jobs in the informal economy.
New forms of employment, for example, self-employment, subcontracting or temporary contracts.
They may be influenced by changes in perceptions about the importance of certain factors, for example the effects of psychosocial factors on work-related stress.
For this reason, campaigns are carried out annually with the aim of focusing international attention on new trends in the field of occupational health and safety and on the magnitude of work-related injuries, illnesses and deaths. .
