240 polyurethane modelling board is medium density. This rigid material is used for making patterns, models, and temporary moulds for short production runs.
Easily shaped by hand using conventional tools and can be rapidly machined using manual or CNC machine tools.
Care should be taken in transporting the material as it will damage relatively easily.
Adhesives and fillers will adhere to the open cellular structure well so can be finished to a fine surface texture.
When sanded the dust is gritty and crystalline.
Thinner sections will flex significantly before breaking
peach / orange in colour
Easy workable with sanding blocks
Good compressive strength
Paint and seals easily
excellent for short-run vac-forming moulds of gentle undulations
Sharp points and peaks may get damaged easily
The project was to create a pattern for a mould appropriate for the ceramics and glass kilns. In several sections, each piece could be swapped and continue the double helical shape.
Material PU 240: dense, light, firm, less expensive, quicker machine time.
