Melamine laminate is a hard resin commonly used as an overlay for building materials like MDF or plywood.

Properties:

Melamine faced boards otherwise know as Conti-board or melamine chipboard.
Durable - scratch & shatter resistant, waterproof.
Inexpensive - covers inexpensive substrates like MDF or plywood.
Melamine boards can be produced in a wide variety of colors & finishes.
Melamine boards are resistant to heat.
Resistant to stains.
Melamine boards are easy to clean due to the tough outer coating that encases the compressed wood core.

The combination of the durable coating and quality core make the material great for use in cabinetry and bedroom furniture like wardrobes. Resistant to moisture and stains make it a perfect material for kitchen cabinets.

Applications:

Melamine faced chipboard does not require any kind of finishing
Melamine boards are lightweight and tool friendly, Melamine board can be cut with a flat bed CNC.
Melamine boards can be used in mould making due to the high shine and smooth surface, it is recommended to use a release agent.

Sustainability:

MDF and plywood are made from waste from the production of cut wood, manufacturing of the resins and the panels themselves require a lot of energy.
Plastic laminate melamine board Class M1 contains emissions-tested materials. Plastic laminate melamine board is not bio degradable.

Material Handling:

Wear a dust mask while sanding to avoid dust inhalation which can cause short and long term damage to the lungs.
Work in Dust from working with particleboard can be carcinogenic or create respiratory issues, because of the resins contained in the material. Work in a well ventilated area
