What will I study?
Media Studies will enable you to:
• Demonstrate skills of enquiry, critical, thinking, decision-making and analysis
• Demonstrate understanding of how texts are shaped by history, society, culture, politics, and economic conditions of the time
• Apply theoretical knowledge and specialist terminology to analyse, compare, contrast and evaluate media products
• Make informed arguments, reach academic judgements and draw conclusions about media issues and debates.
• Apply academic theories using the theoretical framework.
• Demonstrate practical skills by providing opportunities for creative media production.
• Experience a huge range of enrichment opportunities by working with industry professionals linked to QPCS.
You will study a range of texts, including TV, radio, newspapers, magazines, advertising, marketing, video, games, and music videos.
How will I be assessed?
There are two exams at the end of this course That represent 70% of the overall grade. The NEA accounts for 30% of the qualification.
Where might it lead?
A-level Media Studies provides a fantastic grounding in critical and creative thinking. It is an excellent pathway to higher education, courses and many creative careers. English Literature, Sociology, Drama, Photography, Art, and Film Studies, combined very well with this course.
