The BTEC Business course is designed to provide a vocational alternative to traditional A levels. These qualifications are based on actual businesses and a greater percentage of assessment is through coursework. The BTEC Business course offers a broad introduction to careers in business and provides the opportunity to experience real, authentic business practices. The course develops practical business skills, so is suitable for students wishing to move on to management training courses, who wish to work directly in business post 18, or wish to develop the skills to set up their own business.
We will be offering the Extended Diploma worth three A levels.
The course enables you to develop creative and analytical thinking. You will be assessed both internally by the BTEC team, and externally through exams set and marked by Edexcel Pearson.
What will I study?
You will study a combination of units which will include: Exploring Business, Developing a Marketing Campaign, Personal and Business Finance, Principles of Management, Business Decision Making, Managing an Event, International Business, Team Building in Business, Customer Service, Recruitment and Selection, Pitching for a New Business, Training and Development.
How will I be assessed?
You will complete 13 units across the two years. Four of the units will be externally assessed in either the form of a written exam or a controlled assessment. The other nine units will be internally assessed through coursework.
Where might it lead?
In previous years, students have chosen to study BA Hons in Business Management, Finance, Accounting, or Business combined with another subject. The programme supports progression to higher education courses in business areas before entering employment as well as progression to Higher Apprenticeships. In addition to this, several of our former students have also set up and now run their own businesses.
