A level Art and Design allows you to develop an exciting and extensive range of creative and technical skills and gain a strong understanding of historic and contemporary visual art movements through supporting contextual studies.
What will I study?
You will develop your drawing and painting skills and experiment with a range of other media and techniques. You will study the work of a range of artists and develop understanding of some of the concepts behind different artistic movements.
How will I be assessed?
Year 12 Assessment
Component 1: Personal Investigation: experimenting with different media and processes, explore ideas and research from primary and contextual resources.
Component 2: Externally Set Assignment: controlled assessment in which you will create your final response to the theme.
Year 13 Assessment
Component 1: Personal Investigation
Part 1: Supporting studies and personal outcomes.
Part 2: A personal study consisting of continuous prose of 1000 – 3000 words. Component 2: Externally Set Assignment: controlled assessment in which you will create your final response to the theme. You submit both your personal studies and the final outcomes.
Where might it lead?
A Level Art and Design could lead to a foundation course at Art College, it is useful for careers in Architecture, Design, the Media and Performing Arts. It also complements other courses by providing a very different way of studying and working.
