A course for students with an interest in current affairs, the environment, enjoyment of travel and finding out about new people, places, landscapes and events. A level Geography is a good option for students who are considering studying either science or social science subjects as the syllabus includes both physical and human geography.
What will I study?

Dynamic Planet
• Tectonic Processes and Hazards
• Coastal Landscapes & Change
Dynamic Places
• Globalisation
• Regenerating Places
Political Systems and Sustainability
• The Water Cycle and Water Insecurity
• The Carbon Cycle and Energy Security
Human Systems and Geopolitics
• Superpowers
• Global Development and Connections
• Health, Human Rights & Intervention
• Migration, Identity & Sovereignty
How will I be assessed?
Paper 1, 2 hours 15 minutes: 30% of the qualification
Paper 2, 2 hours 15 minutes: 30% of the qualification
Paper 3, 2 hours 15 minutes: 20% of the qualification
Independent Investigation: 20% of the qualification
There are three exams plus an independent 3,000 – 4,000 word geographical enquiry NEA (Non-Examined Assessment) based on fieldwork. The NEA is worth 20% of the qualification. It is based on a geographical enquiry which will be conducted through field work. Part of the field work investigation is normally completed at a field study centre and therefore requires a financial contribution from each student. This is a compulsory part of the course.
Where might it lead?
Geography teaches you to collect, analyse and interpret data which are skills valued by employers and universities across a range of fields. Because Geography has a human and physical side, it combines well with science or arts subjects to support courses like Biology, Engineering, Business, Law, Media and Politics.
