What will I study?
Film Studies will enable you to:
• Analyse films from silent cinema, early Hollywood, European film, British film, and independent cinema, through to global film, documentary and experimental film forms
• Critically appreciate excellence in filmmaking
• Learn how to apply complex film theory to enhance appreciation of each movie
• Approach films through specific contexts, such as cultural, social, economic, political,
and historical backgrounds
• Not only study films, but also make a short film from a chosen brief, for your NEA – a chance to critically and artistically express
yourself through the medium of film
• Experience a huge range of enrichment opportunities by working with industry professionals (parents and ex-students) who currently work in the film/creative media industries.
You will study a range of dynamic and amazing cinema. Titles include Some Like It Hot, Blade Runner, Inception, La La Land, Frances Ha, Captain Fantastic, Get Out, City of God, And and many more!
How will I be assessed?
There are two exams at the end of this course that represent 70% of the overall grade. The NEA accounts for 30% of the qualification.
Where might it lead?
A-level Film Studies provides a fantastic grounding in critical and creative thinking. It is an excellent pathway to higher education courses and many creative careers. English Literature, Sociology, Drama, Photography, Art, and Media Studies, truly complement with this course.
