I took this picture at the Perkiomen Creek while I was taking my pictures for the Autumn's Beauty assignment. I found this red leaf floating in the water surrounded by other leaves that were submerged under water. I used lightroom, specifically the radial mask, to bring out the colors and detail of the floating leaf while decreasing saturation on the surrounding leaves. I really liked this photo because of the contrast between the leaves and the way the outline between the leaf and water is showing and the leaf is lifted on the water.
I took this picture on the road in front of the monument in Valley Forge National Park. I have always wanted to take a picture of the road so I used the rule of thirds to capture more of the road than the trees and sky in the distance. Then I used lightroom to decrease the saturation on the blues and greens and turned up the saturation on the yellows to create this photo. I really liked this picture because of how the yellow pops in contrast with the grayscale background.
I took this picture at the Perkiomen Creek while taking pictures for the Autumn's Beauty assignment. I saw this orange leaf and saw the reflection of the trees in the creek. I made the leaf my foreground and had the creek and the trees on the other side in the background to capture the essence of fall. I liked how since the background was unfocused, the colors look painted on with watercolors. I also liked how though the picture is mostly orange, the leaves stand out from the background with their texture. I used Lightroom to bring out the orange in the photograph and allow for further define the leaves further.
I took this picture at the Eastern State Penitentiary. I liked how the clouds in the back provided at sort of looming feeling while the semi-ruined arches and shrubbery gave that entire area an ominous effect. I used lightroom to pull out the red and browns in the brick as well as in the shrubs, while un-saturating the green in the bushes to make the photo warmer. I also selected the sky specifically to make the clouds more visible by increasing the clarity, as well as bringing up the contrast between the sky and the clouds.
I took this picture at the Eastern State Penitentiary. I liked how the textures on the walls gave the hallway a more ancient look and makes the environment seem more eerie and ominous. I used lightroom to darken the closer side of the walls to emphasize the parallel walls to make it seem like everything was moving towards the gate. I also brought out the yellows and greens to make the building seem older. I liked this photo because of how the architecture was somewhat symmetrical.
I took this photograph of my LED lights in my room using long-exposure. To achieve this effect I set my camera on long exposure and set my LED light to change colors every second. Then I moved my camera in a triangular motion to get the horizontal and vertical streaks. I liked this photo because it is something that can never be recreated. I used lightroom to darken the background as well as bring out the individual light patterns in the picture.
I took this photo in the science hallway at school when they were decorated for the holiday season. I really liked the way this photo turned out post editing because before, the background of the hallway was visible. I used lightroom to turn up the contrast on the selected the background and also turn down the exposure to create a black background. After this, I increased the vibrance of the colors of the lights as well as gave the wire a little bit more texture. I also liked how for the blue and green lights, the actual bulb is visible.
I took this photo of the stairwell in school. I liked how the back of the stairs was darj while the sides where being hit by the sun. I used lightroom the create a greater contrast between the back and sides of the stairs. I also brought out the shadows of the windows on the stairs and made the outside of the building more visible. I used the mask feature to select the sky, but only some parts got selected, but I darkened only those parts to give the photo a more artistic look.
I took this photo at Ursinus College near the new cafe. To take this photo, I set my camera on the ground and focused the foreground, which was the concrete slabs, making the lights in the background blur out, creating the bokeh effect. I liked this photo because of how the lights reflected off of the concrete, making it look like there was glitter. I used lightroom to give the photograph a warmer feel to the photo.
I took this photo on a clear night and I used my telescopic lens to get a clearer picture of the moon and its dark spots. I used lightroom to brighten the luminance of the moon to give it a sort of halo as well as darken the background to make the moon stand out more. I liked this photo because before I started photography, I tried to get a picture of the moon, but I did not know how to adjust the camera settings to get the moon with details, but I was able to do this now.
I took this photo in front of my house by stepping in the snow wearing my winter boots. I took this photo to lightroom to make black and white and bring out the shadows in the top of the boot-print. I liked this photo because of how clear the texture of the shoe print is on the snow, making it look very concrete and sort of ridged. Also, when I showed my friends this picture, they said it looked like an optical illusion when turned upside down because it looked like the shoe was coming out of the snow, which I thought was pretty cool because that was not something I intended on.
I took this photo in front of my house. I was driving back home when I noticed this beautiful sunset, and I quickly parked my car and got my camera and tripod. I have this bush in front of my house that was bare, and decided to capture the sunset through the bush to show winter, because there were no leaves. In lightroom, I lowered the exposure and brought out the colors in the clouds and sunset to make them stand out more.
I took this photo in my kitchen. My parents wanted me to take some pictures of spices to hang in the kitchen, so I set up some Indian spices and tried out different angles on how to take the photo. I really liked this picture because you can see all the different spices in the background but the foreground is focusing in the star anise, which I though was very pretty. I also liked how vibrant the turmeric was in the background. I did not have to edit this photo in lightroom.
I took this photo in front of my house. The sky was a sort of purple that I had not seen in a while and wanted to capture it with the silhouette of hydrangea. I then used lightroom to bring out the purple in the sky and to make the clouds look more pink to give the photo some texture in the sky. I liked how the little stems and parts of the hydrangea can be seen as well as how the sky is sort of minimalistic in the sense that it does not take away from the hydrangea.
I took this photo in the stairwell at school. I saw the sun beaming through the lined windows and the shadow that it cast on the wall. I used this picture for tonal contrast as well since it is apparent that there is a change in tone between the dark lines and the grey wall. I used lightroom to darken the building that can be seen outside of the window to focus the eye on the light and wall. I liked this photo because it captures and draws attention to a single point through the contrasting tones.
I took this photo during the projection portraits project. I used a wavy-line projection on Christian and used lightroom to select him as the subject and darken the background to create a contrast between him and the background. I like this picture because it has an almost painting-like look to it, which makes it good because it is actually a photograph.
I took this photo in class for product photography. I was using my sister's vans because of how unique they were. I used the black background in the lightbox and used the black plexiglass to cast a reflection of the shoe. I then used lightroom to completely darken the background and make the reflection of the shoe more detailed. I like this photo because product photography was something that I had never tried before and I liked how the shoe really looked like something you would see in an advertisement or in a magazine.
This photo was taken during spring break outside of my house. It was raining one day and after it started to drizzle, I went outside to get some photos. I saw this puddle and saw the reflection of the sky and trees in the water and decided to take a photo. I used lightroom to bring out the colors in the sky and make the shape of the tree more prominent. I liked this photo because it was unlike other photos I had taken and I liked how I used the water to compose the photo.
I took this photo in class during the object low-key. I used lightroom to get rid of the blacks in the background and turned it black and white. I liked this photo because it looks like the violin is floating and the grain in the wood of the body and tuning pegs are very apparent. I also liked how the scroll is in the foreground while the bridge and fingerboard are in the background because it makes the photo look more exquisite in the sense that it gives the photo a richer feel.
I took this photo at the memorial day parade in Trappe. I used lightroom to crop the photo from the bottom to make the focus more on the truck and flag rather than the road. I also gave the photo more warm and I made the saturation lower. I liked this photo because of how the woman is looking up at the flag as it is flying and the rust and imperfections in the truck add to the warmer effect of the photo in general. I also liked how the blue in the sky and blue in the truck were different shades which made the truck pop more.
I took this photo in the city of Pittsburgh while I was visiting colleges there. I took this photo in Point Park. I used lightroom to cool the photo and bring out more of the colors in the buildings since it was cloudy. I liked this photo because I had to do very minimal editing, because that meant that the photo was set to all of the right settings on my camera. This showed me that I was able to use all that I learned for this photo. I also liked how the streets were basically empty and the city looks so peaceful, which it was.
