BACKGROUND:
Lisa Kristie was born in the United States. She was always interested in social sciences, anthropology, and humanitarian rights. As a child, she would look at her mother's National Geographic books and appreciated the diverse, native cultures that she witnessed. She also traveled a lot and on her trips, she was always in pursuit of beautiful landscapes and indigenous cultures. However, in 2009, Kristie was a witness to modern slavery when she net a supporter of the organization Free The Slaves. She did not realize that slavery was still a problem and went to Asia and Africa to see this atrocity. She is a big activist- speaking at TED Talks, and other locations- and is a partner in the UN's International Labour Organization to stop slavery.
PHOTOGRAPHY CAREER:
Kristie began photography at the age of 11. She went to the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising and graduated at the age of 18. She travels around the world photographing indigenous and native people and their culture and to bring light to certain human rights issues such as modern slavery. In 2009, she collaborated with Free The Slaves to publish a body of work called Slavery. She received the Lucie Humanitarian Award in 2013 for her works in human rights through her photography and even gave TED talks to talk about her photography and how it is affected by modern slavery. In 2015, she was recognized one of the top 12 tier photographers for portraits by Resource Magazine. Along with this, he released three films about modern slavery where her photography helped audiences see the horrendousness of the situation. On May 10th, 2019, she was blessed by the Pope for her exhibitions of Nuns Healing Hearts due to her two- year project of photographing nuns who were standing up to human trafficking.
