Consumerism is the wanting to buy. Today, most Americans are perceived to overbuy, which is not wrong, but when people impulse buy items that they don't really need and only buy it because of trends and tradition, materials and money tend to go to waste. For me. consumerism is buying gear for tennis, saving for functional items, and buying anything I need, such as cloths, shoes, phones, etc, off of Amazon. However, I also when buying these items, tend to choose branded products or items that a lot of people tend to have.
Around the holidays, people get into the Christmas spirit and buy grand amounts of presents, all of which have to be wrapped using wrapping paper. The thing with wrapping paper is it can only be used once. You buy a surplus of designs at the store, wrap the present, and then throw it away.
