Community Agreements

Stay Engaged

  • Don't let your heart and mind check out.

Experience Discomfort

  • Agree to experience discomfort so that we can deal with issues in an honest way.

No Fixing

  • It is important to let each person experience their own discomfort and not try to "fix" them either by reassuring them or explaining away their emotions. They don't need to be fixed.

Have Learning Courage

  • Willingness to acknowledge our own vulnerabilities and lack of awareness makes room for new learning and growth.

Speak Your Truth

  • Be honest about your thoughts, feelings, and opinions. Say them in a way that is true for you. Use "I" statements. Do not make generalizations about others.

Expect and Accept Non-Closure

  • Accept that you will not reach closure in your understanding of the topic/theme. There is no such thing as a "quick fix" in equity and cultural responsiveness.

Intent and Impact

  • Recognize that what we say may have an unintended impact, even though we may have positive intent. Own the impact.
