Introduction to Advanced Robotics Challenge 2022
Advanced Robotics Challenge (ARC) is a robotics competition which is organized by Penang Science Cluster, in conjunction to Penang TechFest Week 2022
ARC will be based on similar "Pick n Place" concept of FIRST Tech Challenge Season 2021/2022 - Freight Frenzy scoring methodology
ARC is only open to for participating teams who fulfill the following requirements:
8 spots are only available for the competition based on First Come First Serve basis for alliance scoring purposes
Robotics sets used for ARC will be primary based on REV Robotics FTC Starter Kit V3, where addition of other robotics parts are also allowed
Competing teams will be competing in Alliance format, in which it encourages communication, and cooperation between teams
ARC was organized, and it have the objectives of:
Goods delivering
Strategy consideration
Teams communication
General Rules & Regulations
Overview
Each robot can only transport a freight at any given time
Similar to Freight Loading & Transport Rules & Regulations stated for FTC Season 2021/2022
Alliance concept is applied in ARC:
Alliance is formed when two (2) teams group together in representing a side of Game Field
Scores obtained by the Alliance represent scores obtained by each of the team in Alliance
Penalties and cards impact the entire Alliance
Alliance have 20 minutes (Group Stage), and 45 minutes (Championship Stage) of discussion and tactic planning before match
An additional Test Field will be prepared on the Championship Day in facilitating Alliance communication and understanding
Competition is divided into two (2) stages, in which each team WILL play ten (10) matches:
Group Stage - Seven (7) matches with random Alliance partners
Championship Stage - Three (3) matches with selected Alliance partners
Advantage Teams will have the power to form the Championship Alliance
Robot controller MUST be based on FTC Control Hub, but any additional robot controller (micro-controller) is allowed
Maximum number of gamepad console per team is two (2)
Any robot controlling and manipulation from external parties or personals outside Competition Area will lead to immediate team disqualification
Test Field is opened to teams starting 1 August 2022 until 14 September 2022, from 9:00am to 6:00pm
Maximum 2 teams is allowed to be at the test field at any given time from 1 August until 3 September
Teams limit for Test Field is lifted after 3 September, and time is adjusted to 8:30am to 7:30pm
Each match last for 2 minutes 30 seconds:
First 30 seconds is the Autonomous period, in which no human interference and interaction is allowed
Remaining 2 minutes is Driver-Controlled period, in which human interference towards robot is through gamepad console
Last 30 seconds of Driver-Controlled period is Endgame period, in which human interference towards robot is through gamepad console, and duck and/or Team Shipping Element loading on Carousel
Attached video would be the identical video used for match timing in FIRST Tech Challenge Season 21/22 Freight Frenzy. Be familiarized with different sounds, and instructions given in throughout the video, with respect to match flow, for different game element scoring purposes.

Championship Alliance which is observed the most collaborative, helpful towards each other during the Championship Stages
Both teams in the Alliance will win the prize money
In Penang Science Cluster, a full-size game field for Advanced Robotics Challenge was setup, filled and placed with game props used for the competition, in which it serves as a testing ground for teams in performing performance analysis, tactical planning, and evaluating suitability for challenge completion regarding robot constructed by the team.
Teams may book a time slot in the spreadsheet below for the usage of space in Penang Science Cluster, which is available from Monday to Sunday (except Public Holidays), 1000 hours to 1700 hours. Due to the current COVID-19 pandemic, and strict Standard operation Procedures (SOP) in place, as well as team tactic confidentially, only 1 team is able to be present at any one time slot. To book a time slot for the usage of space in Penang Science Cluster for FTC robot building, teams are required to:
Fill up the Google Spreadsheet on the selected time slot for robot building in Penang Science Cluster
Ensure that each member's MySejahtera status is categorized "Allowed Entry"
Members don't have any COVID-19 symptoms before
Kindly send the results to the person in charge as state below
Jarrod (011-1883 6357)
Adrian (016-455 6795)
Additional Notice: Test Game Field will be closed and dismantled temporary from 24 August to 26 August, for the launching of B-Braun event.
We understood that teams will require a "physical-touch" on the game props, in order to prepare and configure the constructed robot for optimum scoring performance during the Championship phase. Upon request, and subjected to availability, each team can loan out maximum one (1) quantity of the following game props, and are required to return them on the Championship Day:
Freight (Light) <no load>
Freight (Medium) <one (1) load each face>
Freight (Heavy) <two (2) loads each face>
Ball
Duck
For some common and large game props, Penang Science Cluster CANNOT loan out to teams, and require teams to be present for testing purposes:
Game perimeter
Rubber foam tile
Carousel
Alliance & Shared Shipping hubs
For teams who like to loan any game props, and other related items from Penang Science Cluster, please download and fill in this form. Kindly submit to us during the loaning of items.
Table below shows the Alliance Pairing and Fixtures table, in which X-Y indicates alliances is formed between team X and team Y.
