Portraits during Covid-19

See the work of our amazing second year artists during lockdown

Projects in focus

2nd Year Collage leading to imaginative drawings.

I like the art studio because it is a nice and easy workplace. I feel safe in the art room aswell because you are with all your friends and just having a good time.

Second Year student

I like the art studio because I like to come in sometimes during lunch or before school to work on my pieces of art and relax. It is a friendly and nice environment. I like art because it has taught me how to draw and paint with proper proportions.

CBA 1 2020 - work in progress

My CBA in art was a valuable experience because it helped me use my imagination more inside and outside the art room.

Nathan Ford, 2nd Year

In my CBA I learned a new skill; Blockprinting, and I understood that I can change a normal drawing by adding lines and shapes and that will make it come more alive and look nicer.I had a lot of fun and my drawing and research skills increased a lot. I enjoyed the CBA a lot.

CBA 1 - moving to print

Our students working on CBA 1 - an active formative assessment to promote learning. The CBA in art is goal-oriented and involves practical and experiential knowledge of our world. We aim to help our boys to know the world through hands-on exploration.

This differs from knowing ABOUT our world through study. While both modalities of learning are important, a hands-on knowledge of the world and learning through experience provides a greater and more accessible grasp of the complex challenges that are associated with any new learning.

What does a final CBA 1 look like?

The Visual Art sketchpad documents the journey that the student undertook from choosing a theme, creating a mind map, choosing primary sources, drawing primary sources, developing design drawings, sourcing artworks that inspired the student, reflections on learning, notes on developing ideas all leading to the final block print. Below is an example of 1 Visual Art sketchpad.

Working towards posters:

theme exploration, primary source selection, visual observation and analysis of primary sources, study of the work of others, lettering construction, composition and value studies, colour studies...

before moving on to final posters.
