Art Process

Our Process

In the Art department, project works broadly follow a similar process. Above is a diagram with associated action verbs highlighting each stage of the process of visual art production.

Generally, students begin with a theme or source (object, place, person, idea). This is connected to an end goal where students will realise a final work such as a poster, painting, puppet or graphic design piece.

They think about these through brainstorming and researching.

They visually explore sources through drawing and writing.

They develop ideas based on their initial drawings through further drawing and writing towards their end goal.

They refine their ideas by considering their end goal and whether their developing ideas will meet this end goal.

They realise their final works by making final artworks that grow from their Thinking, exploring, developing and refining.

They present their final works aiming to meet their end goal.

They reflect on the process through writing or speaking. This leads to further learning.

This process becomes very useful to students as they undertake any project within and beyond the school curriculum.
