Ritual_Prayer Box

Kongming Lantern was originally used by the Chinese war troops for communication in 3rd century BC.; it symbolizes good fortune and a way to rid of worries. Today, Chinese people use the lantern mainly on Mid-Autumn Festival and Lantern Festival. These airborne lanterns are meant for carrying personal wishes and prayers when launched together in the night. This becomes a ritual to seek good health and fortune for the nearing future. In this project, I presented praying in a more private zone, since the people do not gather to light the lanterns anymore due to environmental concerns and the current pandemic. The fruit bergamot is a symbol of prayer in Chinese culture because its shape resembles fingers. At the end, I used my finger to make a hole on the paper lantern to portray the moment of discovering one's wishes.
