Congratulations to first grade for winning in December! We start another campus wide challenge this month.
Our attendance theme for January is RETURN- REENGAGE-REALIZE. This anchors to the yearlong theme of Attend, Engage, Achieve! (SPANISH) .
Valley View has HIGH CHRONIC ABSENTEEISM, which means that students are OFTEN absent 10% or more of the school year (18 days) and are therefore not accessing the learning at school. Excused absences count towards chronic absenteeism.
As part of our PUSD learning community, we ask all students and families to establish an Attendance Success Plan.
The Student Attendance Success Plan is designed to help parents/guardians track their children’s attendance and work with teachers/staff to set appropriate goals. Each Student
Attendance Success Plan includes a calendar for the current school year, and a Help Bank to encourage families to think about their back up plans for getting to school even when challenges come up.
It is time to reengage, review your attendance goals as a family and focus to help your child reach their fullest potential this Spring. In PUSD, Every student and
Every Day Counts. We’re here to partner and provide tools for success! Please communicate with us if you face any challenges. Find more information on the attendance page on our PUSD website.
Our school garden is almost ready for us to DIG IN! This coming week, work will be done on the putting up the permanent fence around the garden.
Interested in helping to create a beautiful and purposeful garden that all students can take part in? We have 2 interested parents so far. Any other takers?

Dinner with a Scientist
Tuesday March 3, 2026
Valley View Library (5:15pm Check-in)
Event: 5:15pm-7:30pm
Is your 3rd-5th grade child interested in science? Does your child love to conduct scientific experiments? Here is their opportunity to have dinner with a real scientist and perhaps spark their interest in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) careers.
In the past, our scientists have included engineers, doctors, geologists, airline pilots, entomologists, and scientists from Clorox, Sandia, LLNL and NASA. We hope that this evening will give your child an opportunity to learn about the many different careers in science.
We will be ordering dinner and need an accurate count. Participation in Dinner with a Scientist doubled since we began a decade ago. The event is FREE but we are asking for an optional $15.00 donation to cover the cost of food. If you are able to donate, we would very much appreciate your help. No child will be excluded from this activity due to the lack of a donation.
Please reserve this date! If you would like your child to participate, please fill out the Google Form Registration link Click here by Saturday, January 31, 2026. If your child plans to participate, and you can help chaperone that evening, please indicate on the form. Please remind your child to attend this event with respectful manners.
Thank you,
Ms. Dyer and “Dinner with a Scientist” Coordinators
