Teachers and administrators across the district have access to my Google Calendar. Not only can they see that I am busy, but they can also see what I'm doing and with whom. If they would like individual professional development, they may set up an appointment via Gmail or Google Calendar invitation. In addition, the door to my office is always open to staff to drop in with last minute questions or requests. This year, I also tried to model appropriate time frames for seeking coaching. I used Boomerang to compose email to be sent at appropriate times and resisted the temptation to answer emails on weekends and vacations in an attempt to maintain a healthier balance between work and personal time.
I believe that all teachers will benefit from coaching. I am encouraged by the increase in teachers included a coaching, blended learning strategies, and technology components in Professional Practice Goals (PPG).
As we have evolved into a more intentional coaching model, I have enjoyed spending more time planning with teachers, modeling, observing, and providing feedback.
One teacher affirmed the value of coaching by stating: “It feels like when learning coaches are observing in classrooms, they are there to help. You hope they see your challenges and problems so that they can help you get better."
